TWENTYNINE PALMS WATER DISTRICT TALKS ABOUT RAISING WATER RATES, APPOINTING BOARD MEMBER

The Twentynine Palms Water District met last night to discuss their current water rates. While the District currently meets minimum operating requirements, they said existing rates are insufficient for increasing capital costs, so they are considering raising the cost of water over the next five years. No action was taken because board members wanted more time to think about the proposals presented. Board President Sam Moore suggested an additional special workshop meeting to discuss raising the water rates. In other business, the board decided to hold interviews during the next meeting, October 22, to fill the currently empty seat that used to be occupied by Bo Bourikas. The Water District will be accepting applications for this spot starting next week. On the Fire Department side, Fire Prevention week is scheduled for October 5 through October 11. The theme is “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives,” urging residents to have working smoke alarms in their homes and check them every month. In upcoming Fire Department events, Station 422 will host an open house from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on October 8. On Saturday, October 18, from 6:00 to 10:00 a.m., there will be a pancake breakfast at Station 421.
