“SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES” IN DISAPPEARANCE OF TWENTYNINE PALMS WOMAN

Authorities say there are “definite suspicious circumstances” surrounding the disappearance of a pregnant Twentynine Palms woman who was last seen Saturday morning. The Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the disappearance of Erin Corwin, 19, last seen leaving her home in the 6600 block of Jasmine Drive on board the Combat Center about 7 a.m. She told her husband, Jonathan Corwin, a corporal in the Marine Corps, that she was going to look for hiking trails for her and her mother to hike in Joshua Tree National Park. He reported her missing about 9:30 Sunday morning. The Sheriff’s Department began an extensive search by air and on the ground with search-and rescue teams. Her family said her vehicle, a 2013 blue Toyota Corolla, was found outside the Marine base, her phone has been turned off or dead since Saturday, she is not returning text or Facebook messages, or voice mails. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Department Specialized Investigation Division were called in on Monday. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Bachman said, “The specialized division was asked to assume the investigation because they felt that there were definite suspicious circumstances. The division has advanced investigative skills, including interviewing techniques, and is well-suited when it comes to investigations that involve the possibility of foul play.” They are asking for the public’s help in locating Erin Corwin, who is 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighs 110 pounds, and has brown hair and blue eyes.
