SEVEN LOCAL WOMEN HONORED BY CONGRESSMAN COOK

Seven Morongo Basin women were honored Friday by Congressman Paul Cook in his second annual Women of Distinction award. Among the 22 women recognized for their community service were Susanna Barnett of Joshua Tree for her work with Morongo Basin Unity Home; Elizabeth Kirland of Yucca Valley, a therapeutic behavioral specialist for Pacific Clinics; Cathy Blau of Twentynine Palms, a social worker at Hi-Desert Family Health Clinic; Donna Munoz of Morongo Valley, a former California Woman of the Year and Yucca Valley Elks Citizen of the Year; Elaine Bowden of Twentynine Palms, a retired Marine colonel who was this year’s Pioneer Days Parade Military Grand Marshall and who has dedicated her post-military life to her church and various charities; Georgia Shirey of Yucca Valley, for her work as a volunteer with the Semper Fi Memorial Honor Detail; and Sue Tsuda, the first town manager of Yucca Valley. Congratulations to all the local women of distinction.
