MARINE ARRESTED IN 29 PALMS KIDNAPPING INVESTIGATION
An ongoing investigation of a November 8th kidnapping in 29 Palms has resulted in the arrest of an active duty Marine. Sheriff’s Detective Rick Millard said Ashleigh Wallace, 24, had gone to a party at the home of Marine Winsly Leonce in the 6900 block of Park Avenue. During the gathering Leonce noticed some items were missing from his house and suspected some of Wallace’s friends. Wallace said Leonce and two accomplices forced her into a car and drove her around 29 Palms forcing her to call her friends in an attempt to find the missing property. At one point Wallace’s friend agreed to met behind the Santana’s Restaurant on Adobe Road where shots were fired, no one was hit by the gunfire. Wallace was driven out into the desert assaulted and threatened, then driven to another residence in 29 Palms. Wallace was able to contact Sheriff’s dispatchers who used the GPS on her cell phone to locate her. As a result of the investigation Winsly Leonce was arrested for investigation of Felony kidnapping and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with bail set at $250,000.00 bail. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests may be made.

WE TAKE A LOOK AT DANGEROUS TOYS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
With holiday shopping in full swing, a consumer protection organization has launched a website to help identify dangerous toys. Managing Editor Karl Gardner has more on “Trouble in Toyland”...
Californians heading to stores in the coming weeks may want to know if the toys they’re buying are safe. California Public Interest Research Group or CALPIRG’s annual "Trouble in Toyland" report may help consumers identify potentially hazardous toys. CALPIRG spokesman Mike Russo says dangerous toys are still being sold, but their report also found some progress in toy safety, thanks to a new law overhauling the Consumer Product Safety Commission. "There’s new limits on lead and other toxic chemicals, new pre-market testing and certification process that’ll help to weed out a lot of these problems before they actually wind up on the store shelves. But with that said, there are certainly still products that are slipping through the cracks." The report focused on three hazards: small parts that may cause choking; loud toys that can cause hearing damage and toys containing lead or Phthalates. CALPIRG has a new interactive tool to help consumers this year. While shopping, consumers can access their smart phone or computer to look up a particular toy. Russo says shoppers "Can actually look up a toy just on their phone on a special site designed for them so they easily look up different hazards that are out there." Consumers can also use the interactive web site at CALPIRG.org to report a toy they believe may be dangerous.
