EARTHQUAKE IN YUCCA VALLEY
If you thought the Earth moved Friday morning, you were right. A 2.9 magnitude earthquake struck at 2:54 a.m. Friday in Yucca Valley. According to the U.S. Geogolical Survey, the earthquake was at a depth of 7 kilometers and was centered at 34.1345 latitude and longitude 116.4078 longitude, which puts it midway between Paxton Road and Sierra Way, just west of Palo Alto Avenue. Thirteen people in Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree reported to the USGS that they felt the earthquake. There were no calls to the Yucca Valley Police or the Sheriff’s Department about the earthquake or damage, according to online blotters.

HOMELESS WOMAN ARRESTED FOR TRESPASSING
A Homeless woman camped out just west of the California Welcome Center in Yucca Valley was cited for trespassing after the property owner requested a citizen’s arrest. About 3:50 Tuesday afternoon, Town Code Enforcement called Sheriff’s deputies to the vacant lot to assist with the ongoing problem. Town Officials have said they’ve received numerous inquires expressing concerns for the woman. When approached by Town staff, the woman, identified as Diane Myers, 41, said she simply wants to be left alone. Myers was cited for trespassing and released. Where Myers went after the citation was issued is not known.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SELLING CHRISTMAS TREES
The Knights of Columbus of 29 Palms will begin selling Christmas trees Wednesday, December 1, at their lot located on Highway 62 across from the Pizza Hut in 29 Palms. The lot will be open 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Christmas tree sale is a fundraiser for the Knights of Columbus, who use the proceeds to support charities like Breaking Bread Ministries, Unity Home for victims of domestic violence, and the pregnancy support center.

HOLIDAY SAFETY TIPS
This holiday season, don't let the spirit of giving lull you into giving burglars, muggers, and pickpockets a better chance to do their dirty work. Criminals love the holidays as much as everyone else. Sheriff’s Specialist Anita Baker offers some holiday safety tips. Following these suggestions may help deter pick-pockets and purse-snatchers:
Don’t overburden yourself with packages. Be careful with purses and wallets. Carry a purse close to your body, not dangling by the straps. Put a wallet in a coat or front pants pocket. Have your vehicle keys in your hand and ready. Look around before opening your vehicle. When shopping with children, teach them to go to a store worker or security guard if you get separated.

SATURDAY BREAKFAST BUFFET AT JOSHUA TREE CHURCH
The Joshua Tree Community United Methodist Church will provide a free community breakfast buffet EVERY Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. Children’s activities are provided during the breakfast. The church is located at 6213 E. Parkway Blvd. in the heart of Joshua Tree.

LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS ON MONDAY
Coming up in local high school sports tomorrow, the Yucca Valley High School Trojan girls’ soccer team will travel away to face the Jurupa Valley Jaguars, in a scrimmage starting at 3:15. The Trojan boys’ basketball team is also on the road versus the Beaumont High School Cougars, with tip off time to be announced. And the Twentynine Palms High School Wildcat girls’ basketball team travels away to Hemet, competing in the West Valley Tournament starting at 6.
