MISSING MAN FOUND AFTER 7-HOUR SEARCH
Sheriff's deputies were out for seven hours yesterday looking for a 23-year-old man. About 2 p.m., Patrick Tagaloni rode off from his residence in the 1600 block of South Wamego Trail in Yucca Valley on a dirt bike. His mother became concerned when he hadn't returned two hours later, and called deputies for help in locating him. A helicopter was also used in the search. Patrick Tagaloni was found just after 11 p.m. in a ravine on BLM land west of Flamingo Heights. According to paramedics Tagaloni suffered minor to moderate injuries.

YUCCA VALLEY MAN SENTENCED IN SWORD ATTACK
Kanneth Ray Brown of Yucca Valley, who wounded a man with a sword, was sentenced to state prison yesterday. Brown, 18, was sentenced to five years in state prison in Joshua Tree Superior Court for wounding Brandon Koenig during a confrontation in June. Brown received another year in state prison after he was found in possession of methamphetamine in jail earlier this month, according to the District Attorney's office. An argument erupted between Brown and Koenig June 25 at a residence on Hermosa Avenue in Yucca Valley. The victim was apparently dating Brown's sister. Brown got a 21-inch sword and swung it at Koenig, who was cut on the hands and neck, according to investigators. Sheriff's deputies arrested Brown for investigation of attempted murder and he was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail. Brown pleaded guilty to one count of attempted murder, according to court records. Earlier this month, a deputy at the jail found Brown in possession of methamphetamine while they were preparing to transport him to court. Brown also pleaded guilty to possessing meth in jail.

JOSHUA TREE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION TO DISCUSS CASINO PROPOSAL TOMORROW
Joshua Tree Community Association will have a presentation of the affect of casinos in small town at their meeting tomorrow. Reporter Dan Stork has details. The meeting of the Joshua Tree Community Association on November 19 features a speaker with information about communities that face the potential of casinos in their midst. Patricia Mayne, of Standup for California, will talk about: Land transfers to trust – how to comment officially; Community input to appropriate officials; standings of other communities with proposed casinos. The meeting is scheduled for 10 am to noon in the Joshua Tree Community Center on Sunburst Avenue. More information is available at the Association's web site at jtcaonline.org.

COUPLE ARRESTED FOR DRUGS AT MARINE BASE MAIN GATE
A couple was arrested and their children taken away after they tried to drive on to the Marine Base with drugs and paraphernalia. According to a Sheriff's report, about 7:30 Wednesday night, Randall Borchers, 42, and Alecia Matz, 29, both of Twentynine Palms, were stopped by guards at the gate to the Combat Center. Their vehicle was searched and drug paraphernalia, including two syringes loaded with methamphetamine, were found. Because Randall Borchers and Alecia Matz had their children in the car with them, they were arrested for investigation of felony child endangerment. They were booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with bail set at $100,000 each. The children were turned over to a family member.

SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR NOT REGISTERING ADDRESS
A registered sex offender was arrested Tuesday for investigation of not notifying law enforcement of his new address. According to a Sheriff's report, deputies went to the 61500 block of El Reposo Circle in Joshua Tree, where they found Andres Rojas, 29. According to the California Attorney General's Megan's Law website, which tracks registered sex offenders, Rojas's last registered address was in the 2200 block of Sand Drive in Landers. Rojas was convicted in May 2000 of sexual battery and lewd acts with a child under 14, and he also has a previous conviction in 2001 for failing to register as a felony sex offender. He is being held in the West Valley Detention Center with bail set at $25,000.

MCCES BATTALION FAMILY DAY TUESDAY ABOARD MARINE BASE
The Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School (MCCES) aboard the Twentynine Palms Marine base, is hosting a Battalion Family Day this Tuesday from noon until 4:30 for the Marines, Sailors, civilians and family members of MCCES. According to 2nd Lt. Shawn Lowman, the intent is to get the "MCCES Family" together to share in the camaraderie and Esprit de Corps of serving this great nation. Events will include face painting for kids, bouncy houses, pony rides, food, and beverages. There will be a Battalion Olympiad held throughout the day. Lowman said the Olympiad will culminate in the ever popular Company Commander/First Sergeant Egg Toss Extravaganza.

FOOD HANDLERS CLASS OFFERED TOMORROW BY TLC
A county-required food handlers class will be held tomorrow to benefit Tender Loving Cause, or TLC. Assignment reporter Derwood Andrews has more. The County of San Bernardino requires anyone dealing with food and the public to take the Food Handling Course, and Tender Loving Cause are offering an introduction to the online course. On Saturday November 19th from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 at the Morongo Basin Senior Support Center in Yucca Valley, is where you need to be. Also on December 10th a Serve Safe Food Safety Manager's Course is offered at the same place from 8:00 in the morning until 6:00 p.m. For more information and to enroll call Mara at 760-333-2413. AUDITIONS SUNDAY FOR "JAKE'S WOMEN" AT THEATRE 29
Theatre 29 and Director Butch Pelfrey will hold auditions for the quirky and whimsical Neil Simon comedy, Jake's Women, at 4 p.m. this Sunday on the theatre's main stage, 73637 Sullivan Road in Twentynine Palms. Jake's Women tells the story of Jake¬, a novelist who is more successful with fiction than with real life ¬who is facing a marital crisis by daydreaming about the women in his life. The part of Jake has already been cast, but Pelfrey needs seven women, between the ages of 18 to 50, as well as a young girl to play a 12-year-old girl. In addition to the speaking parts, Pelfrey is looking for stage hands, spotlight operators, and volunteers to build sets and props. Volunteers for these positions should come to the audition. The play will run five weekends from January 13 through February 11, audition "sides" are posted on the Theatre 29 website at www.theatre29.org .

FREE FEDERAL SURPLUS FOOD FOR LOW-INCOME MONDAY
Free Federal Surplus food will be distributed free Monday to lo-income individuals and families. Reporter Dan Stork has the where and when. The Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino will distribute surplus food to low-income residents of the Morongo Basin on Monday, November 21st. The locations and times are: the Church of the Lighted Cross, at 11518 Elbow Lane in Morongo Valley, from 8 to 10; Belfield Hall, on Reche Road in Landers, 8:30 to 10:30; The Community Center in Yucca Valley, 8:30 to 10:30; Copper Mountain Mesa Foundation, 65336 Winter Road in the Copper Mountain area, 9 to 11; The Community Center in Joshua Tree, 9 to 11; Sunset Village Apartments, 6036 Sunset Road in Joshua Tree, 9:30 to 11:30; The fire station in Wonder Valley, 10:30 to 11:30; and Little Church of the Desert at 6079 Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms, from 10 to noon. Proof of income and address may be provided in a variety of ways, including self-certification on a form that will be available at each site. Recipients are requested to bring their own paper or plastic bags. The Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino is a private, non-profit organization that seeks to serve the low-income families, elderly, disadvantaged and homeless of the county. The regular meeting of the Homestead Valley Community Council is this Monday. LAWS OF PHYSICS FEATURED AT HDNM TOMORROW
Physics fun at the Hi-Desert Nature Museum tomorrow, Reporter Derwood Andrew invites you to Science Saturday. If you're a child of school age come along at 11.00 in the morning and discover Science Saturdays at the Hi-Desert Nature Museum. On 19th November, physics and the laws of motion is looked into, things like rollercoasters and how they twist and turn and spin upside down, but you don't fall out, due to the laws of physics. TWENTYNINE PALMS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL AND X-COUNTRY IN CIF PLAYOFFS AND FINALS
The Co-De Anza League Champions, the Twentynine Palms High School Football Wildcats, will host Rubidoux at home in a first round playoff. The Twentynine Palms Wildcats finished the regular season with an 8-2 record after falling to Big Bear on the road last Friday afternoon, 37-0. The 'Cats finished in a first place tie with the Bears, completing the season with a 4-1 league record. Tonight's game is the Wildcat's fifth consecutive home playoff game, and they will host Rubidoux in the first round of the East Valley Playoff. The playoff game will take place at 7:30 pm at Tom Nicoll stadium tonight.

In cross-country, the Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats will be representing the Morongo Basin at the CIF Finals at Mount San Antonio College 7:45 Saturday morning. During the preliminary race last week, the Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats all ran personal best times for three miles. The team fought tooth and nail to grab the 5th spot in the prelims and advanced to the finals for the first time since 2003. Sixteen teams will compete in Division 4 finals with seven teams advancing to the State Finals in Fresno on Thanksgiving weekend.
