HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS FOR PETS
With Halloween rapidly approaching, it is not just the kids that have to be kept safe. Reporter Derwood Andrews has ways to protect your pets as well...
The ancient Pagan festival of Halloween is upon us again. The San Bernardino County Animal Care and Control Program offers the following tips to help keep pets safe this Halloween. You may not think this is possible, but some members of our society will steal, torture, and kill your precious black cat for a laugh with their peers, so keep the cats in. Due to this, most animal shelters do not adopt black cats around this holiday. Don't dress your pet up in costumes if you feel it's stressful to them. Don't feed your pet candies. Put them away from the front door and trick-or-treaters. If this sounds obvious—good for you, but many idiots put our best friends at risk this time of year. Take time and precautions to look after our best friends. Call toll free at 1-800 472-5609 for more information.

YUCCA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL TROJANS BEAT BIG BEAR
The Yucca Valley Trojan Football team traveled to Big Bear on Saturday. The varsity took the field and shut out the Bears in the first half, holding the Big Bear offense to 88 total yards. They then held the Bear offense in the second half to a single touchdown while the Bears didn't convert the extra point. The defense caused three fumbles (Mark Cardenas, Ben Hetz, and Danny Pascale), two turnovers on downs, and two interceptions, the first by Jon Markley and the second by Kyle Blakeley to seal the deal. Coach Tim Cannavo said the offense gave the Bears a heaping portion of Brandon Harshaw, who carried the ball 32 times for 159 yards and one touchdown. The Trojans also scored on a beautiful Harshaw fake up the middle, which drew the entire Bear defense allowing quarterback Bradley Soares to walk into the end zone around the edge. The two scores were all it took to defeat the Bears 14-6 and repeat the 2009 sweep up in Big Bear. The JV team kicked things off, winning by a score of 28-27 on a two-point conversion on the last play.
