STOLEN MOTORCYCLE RECOVERED IN YUCCA VALLEY
A stolen motorcycle was recovered by keen eyed sheriffs deputies in Yucca Valley. Deputy Ryan Cook said on Thursday, William Roses of Yucca Valley reported that his motorcycle had been stolen. At 6 that evening, dispatchers received a call that a juvenile boy was riding a motorcycle around the Paradise Valley neighborhood. Responding deputies could not find anyone riding, but as they cursed the area, found a young teen with the bike inside a garage at a home in the 6300 block of Fourtnua Avenue. Deputies ran the VIN from the bike, and found it to be the stolen motorcycle. The 14 year old boy was questioned, then taken into custody for investigation of Grand Theft Auto, and booked into Juvenile Hall.

STOLEN TRUCK TORCHED IN LANDERS
A stolen pick-up truck was set ablaze in Landers. County Fire Officials say Thursday morning around 11:25, fire crews responded to a vehicle fire at the intersection of Sunset Mesa and Reche Roads in Landers. Arriving firefighters had the flames out in minutes. California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Brewer said the truck, a 2004 Toyota Tundra, had been reported stolen from Garden Grove. The pick-up was missing some of its seats and several lug nuts from the wheels. No on was reported injured, the truck’s owner was notifed.

ARTIST RECEPTION AT HI DESERT NATURE MUSEUM

The Morongo Basin Arts Council will hold a reception for the Hi Desert Nature Museum Art Tours Collective Show on Sunday, October 18 from 4:30 to 7 at the Hi-Desert Nature Museum in Yucca Valley. Many of the artists who are participating in this year’s Open Studio Art Tours, and some of their artworks, will be at the reception. The event will include refreshments, prizes, and live entertainment. The museum is located at 57090 29 Palms Highway in Yucca Valley.

ARRESTED FOR DUI, SUSPECT REFUSES REQUIREMENTS FOR RELEASE
A Yucca Valley man was arrested for driving under the influence early yesterday morning, but refused to complete requirements for release. Deputy Troi Kaukani said just after midnight Friday, Patrick Elkin, 27 of Yucca Valley, was stopped for speeding on Barberry Avenue at Yucca Trail. During the stop, Deputy Kaukani smelled the odor of alcohol on Elkin and conduced a field sobriety test. Elkin failed and was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail for investigation of DUI. While at the Jail, Elkin refused to administrative requirements for release, and was placed on a delayed release status, until he agrees to finish the booking process, sobers up and signs a promise to appear in court.

YUCCA VALLEY LIBRARY BOOK SALE
The Friends of the Yucca Valley Library are holding a book sale. Reporter Dan Stork says it’s a good way to get low cost literature...
The fall book sale of the Friends of the Yucca Valley Library runs Friday November 6th through Monday the 9th. There will also be entertainment by local talent and a quilt raffle sponsored by the Cactus Sewables Quilt Guild. In advance of the sale, the Friends are looking for donations of gently-used books, and especially children’s books. Proceeds from the sales go towards book, video, CD, audio book and equipment acquisition, magazine subscriptions, and educational programs.

HI DESERT WATER, TOWN COUNCIL 2+2 MEETING
Two Hi Desert Water District Board Members and two Yucca Valley Town Council members sit down tomorrow to discuss mutual interest issues. Meeting Monday Morning at 8 in the Hi Desert Waster District Board Room, the agenda for the 2 + 2 meeting includes; water resources from the state water project, changes to California’s Gray Water Plumbing Code, an update on the sewage treatment project, and discussions on holding a Joint Town and Water District Strategic Planning Workshop.
