YUCCA VALLEY NATIVE PLANT WORKSHOP
The endless saga of the Yucca Valley Native Plant Ordinance continues. Managing Editor Karl Garder summarizes the plot to this point, and previews upcoming episodes...
The Yucca Valley Planning Commission is still working out the details for a revision of the Town’s Native Plant Protection Ordinance. The commissioners met in a study session for 3 hours Tuesday night to go through the proposed revised ordinance line by line. After listening to comments from the public, the commissioners had an extensive and thorough discussion about what standards to impose for different zoning areas, such as commercial, infill residential, and new developments. They spent most of their time on the primary sections having to do with the standards concerning retention, adoption, and transplantation of native plants. The commission will continue its discussion of the Native Plant Ordinance at its next regular meeting on October 13, and is expected to discuss it for at least 1 or 2 more meetings after that.

The 29 Palms Marine Base has banned dogs of certain breeds from living in base housing. Those dogs who are currently living on base may be grandfathered in if they can pass a manners and temperament test, such as the Canine Good Citizen, or CGC test offered by the American Kennel Club. The CGC test is offered on Sundays from 1 to 6 at Del Valle field. The cost to take the test is $5. In order to pass the CGC test, dogs must be able to sit, stay, come when called, allow basic grooming, and be able to greet people and other dogs without jumping or showing any signs of aggression. Free training classes are offered at 6 pm on Thursays at the dog park at 5th and Del Valle for dogs who need training to meet the testing criteria. For more information, call CGC Evaluator Trina Strong at 401-2763. Good girl, Tami...
