FORMER TWENTYNINE PALMS MARINE KILLS TWO, HIMSELF, AT NEW JERSEY SUPERMARKET
A former Twentynine Palms Marine wearing military clothing opened fire at a New Jersey supermarket early Friday, killing two of his co-workers and then himself, as other terrified store employees hid in the back. Terence Tyler, 23, had been stationed at the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps base from 2008 to 2010. The former infantryman left his shift and returned a half-hour later with a handgun and an AK-47 assault rifle. Authorities say Tyler fired at least 16 rounds from the rifle at the first workers he saw, killing 18-year-old Christina LoBrutto and a 24-year-old Bryan Breen as 12-14 other workers hid. Marine Corps officials said Tyler was discharged from the Marines in 2010 after just under two years in the service in Twentynine Palms. Tyler, who was from New York City, never served overseas.

SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT OFFERS TIPS TO PREVENT SCHOOL VIOLENCE
The Sheriff's Department is concerned about violence in schools. Sheriff's Service Specialist Anita Baker offers these safety tips...
The Sheriff's Department and the National Crime Prevention Council have some steps for students to follow in the prevention of school shootings: Conduct your own safety audit and share your concerns with school administrators and parents. Report suspicious behavior or threats by other students to a teacher, counselor, or law enforcement official; the life you save may be your own. Learn how to manage your own anger effectively. Encourage programs like conflict resolution or teen courts to resolve issues at school. Never bully another student or encourage a bully by laughing at their behavior. There is nothing humorous in someone saying they are going to shoot, kill or harm another person in any way.
