FOUND SLEEPING ON A WALL, TWENTYNINE PALMS MAN CITED FOR DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A man found sleeping on a wall in Twentynine Palms was cited for being drunk in public. Sheriffs’ spokeswoman Vera Martinez said Wednesday night about 10:15, deputies were dispatched to the Jelly Donut in Downtown Twentynine Palms on complaints that a man was passed out on the wall between the donut shop and the neighboring business. Deputy Brad Heard found Ryan Vessells, 36, seemingly drunk and passed out. When Heard tried to nudge Vessells awake, Vessells became combative. Ryan Vessells was subdued, then booked into the Morongo Basin Jail for Investigation of disorderly conduct and being drunk in public, cited and released about 5 Thursday morning.

COUNTY GOP LOOKING FOR LOCAL REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES
The Republican Party of San Bernardino County is trying to get in touch with local Republicans who are running for city council, school board and special district seats in November's election. The party is holding interviews with candidates who would like the party's endorsement. Any registered Republican interested in an endorsement from the party should contact Paul Russell at no later than Friday, September 10.

Joshua Tree National Park is looking for volunteers to participate in National Public Lands Day on Saturday September 25. A variety of half-day activities are planned, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Oasis Visitor Center in Twentynine Palms. Workers should come prepared with hat, sunscreen, study work clothes & boots, water and a snack. All projects benefit your national park, while giving volunteers and opportunity to enjoy the park’s striking, desert landscape. Participants can choose a variety of work projects ranging from trash collection to seed cleaning and preparation as well as other park related projects. All participants will receive a certificate of appreciation plus a free, one-day pass to any federal recreation site. SQUARE DANCE CLASSES AVAILABLE
The Star Twirlers Square Dance Club is offering a beginners square dance class in the rear building at the Yucca Valley Elks Lodge 55946 Yucca Trail in Yucca Valley. ADULT TENNIS IS BACK
Autumn begins soon, that means Friday night coed adult Tournament Tennis returns September 10. Sponsored by the Morongo Basin Tennis Association, matches are held from 6:30 to 9:00, at Jacob’s Park in Yucca Valley. Coed adult Tournament Tennis runs Friday’s through November 19 No pre-registration required, just show up. There may be a small fee for tennis balls if needed.
