SLEEPY MARINE CRASHES ON YUCCA GRADE YESTERDAY
A Marine assigned to the Marine Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms was involved in a solo vehicle traffic collision Thursday morning that slowed commuters for a few hours. About 6:00 a.m., Cody Larson, 18, was driving a 2002 Mercedes sedan eastbound on Highway 62 near Yucca Park Road on the Yucca grade. Larson told investigators he started to fall asleep and noticed he was driving into the concrete center divider. Larson turned his vehicle to the left and clipped the edge of the collapsible front of the divider. This sent Larson's car spinning into the oncoming traffic lanes. The car came to rest in the slow lane of westbound Highway 62. Larson was not injured. Traffic was slowed into one lane until the crash was cleared by emergency responders.
