ARREST FOR GRAND THEFT IN NORTH JOSHUA TREE
A missing transformer for a water pump led to an arrest for Grand Theft in North Joshua Tree. Sheriff’s officials said Thursday night around 10:25, 9-1-1 dispatchers received a call form the 65100 block of Golden Street, the caller saying an electrical transformer for their well had been stolen. The caller said the transformer weighs about 300 pounds and costs about $2500. About 45 minutes later, dispatchers received a second call, saying the victim followed tracks and found the stolen transformer and suspect in the 3600 block of Sunfair Road about ½ mile north from were it was taken. Sheriffs’ Deputies spoke with Chris O’Neil, 43, who told deputies he didn’t think the transformer belong to anyone due to its condition and location. Chris O’Neil was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail for investigation of Grand Theft and held on $50,000 bail.

EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING CONTINUES
The County and the National Weather Service have issued extreme heat advisories through Sunday. You are urged to take precautions to prevent heat-related illness. While the heat advisory is in effect, drink more water, juice and sports drinks, and avoid drinks with caffeine and alcohol. Talk with your doctor first if you take water pills, or are on a low-salt diet. Stay cool indoors and stay in an air-conditioned area, if possible. The Twentynine Palms Senior Center, Hi-Desert Medical Center, Joshua Tree Community Center, and Landers Association building are cooling centers open during the day. The National Weather Service predicts temperatures reaching into the triple digits through Sunday. Never leave kids or pets in a parked car. If your heart pounds or you get out of breath, lightheaded, weak, or feel faint, stop your activity and rest in a cool or shady area. Check on your friends and family and have someone do the same for you. Check on the elderly and people with health conditions twice a day. Warning signs of heat illness include heavy sweating, cramps, headache, nausea or vomiting, tiredness, weakness, dizziness and fainting.
