His new job will pay him $190,000 a year. HI-DESERT WATER DISTRICT TAKES ADVANTAGE OF A STATE WATER SALE
There is nothing like a sale when you are looking for bargains. The Hi-Desert Water District is taking advantage of a sale of state water. Managing Editor Karl Gardner explains...
With the details yet to be clarified, the Hi-Desert Water District Board of Directors agreed at Wednesday’s meeting, to purchase extra water made available from the Mojave Water Agency. The area’s water wholesaler has offered the time sensitive sale to several of its customers, the amount that Hi-Desert will buy based what other customers are willing or can purchase. Board members generally agreed that the district’s number one priority is obtaining water, yet balked at having to dip into the district reserves to pay for the one-time offer.

Vice President Dan Muncy said "water in the ground is an asset just as reserves are". Director Sheldon Hough echoed those sentiments, saying "you can borrow money, you can’t borrow water." Director Bob Stadum pointed out the cost of water continues to rise and the district would be hard pressed to buy future water at today’s prices. In the end, the board directed staff to work out details with Mojave Water that maybe approved at an upcoming special meeting.
