FAMILY OF WOMAN FOUND DEAD THANKS PUBLIC, CHIHUAHUA SOUGHT
After passing out thousands of flyers, the stepfather of Jennifer "Nikki" Alkire, 27, who went missing June 1, wants to thank all those who helped get the word out about her and looked for her. Alkire's body was found Sunday morning on a remote trail between her home in Yucca Valley and that of a friend's home in Morongo Valley. The County Coroner said she had a seizure and hit her head on a rock, sustaining a fatal injury. Michael Roarke said during the search, his family and friends constantly heard from people that they had heard about Alkire's disappearance on the radio. Alkire's dog, Lucy, a Chihuahua who was with her, is still missing, and her family is desperate for any information about her. If you have found Lucy, call Z107.7's Cruisin' Critters at 760-366-8471. A celebration of life for Alkire will be announced at a later date.

TWO ARRESTED IN PROBATION CHECK
Two Yucca Valley men were arrested Sunday afternoon during a probation check. According to a Sheriff's report, deputies went to a home in the 56100 block of Onaga Trail in Yucca Valley about 3:30. Danny Myers, 32, was arrested for investigation of being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was cited and released. Also arrested was Ronald Sartain, 25, a career criminal, on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale. Ronald Sartain was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $50,000.

TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL MEETS TONIGHT, NEW BUDGET, HAWKING CODE ON AGENDA
The Twentynine Palms City Council meets in regular session this evening. The latest on state negotiations, peddling and hawking and the draft budget are all on the agenda. Reporter Dan Stork takes a closer look...
The June 12 meeting of the Twentynine Palms City Council starts with a closed session at 5:30 p.m., to discuss the appointment of a City Clerk. The 6 p.m. open session starts with a notice on the Ocotillo Heights Gate Closure, and a review of correspondence between the Successor Agency Staff and San Bernardino County, Department of Finance and League of California Cities. A code amendment dealing with peddling, hawking, and soliciting will be the subject of a public hearing. The last item scheduled is the distribution and presentation of a draft of the 2012-2013 budget. The Council meets in chambers at City Hall on Adobe Road.

JOSHUA TREE CLEAN TEAM OUT TOMORROW MORNING
The Joshua Tree Clean Team will be out tomorrow morning at Highway 62 and Yucca Mesa Rd. (on the north side of the highway). Workers will be supplied with grabber sticks, trash bags, gloves and water. The new meeting time is 7 a.m. The volunteers will only work for one short hour and then gather at the Park Rock Cafe for optional breakfast, coffee and conversation. BASIN-WIDE FOUNDATION GIVE ANNUAL AWARDS

The Basin Wide Foundation held its 16th Annual Awards Dinner Sunday. The gala celebration was to honor those individuals and organizations that have made a difference in the Morongo Basin. The Youth Volunteers of the Year are Velda Denison and Elizabeth Fleck, for their outstanding teen leadership, countless volunteer hours and dedication to community service. Honored as the Basin Wide Cultural Contributor is Gary Daigneault for his vision and championing of community theater. Honored for going Above and Beyond is Nancy Karl, for bringing intelligence, enthusiasm, and boundless energy to a multitude of tasks every day. Volunteers of the Year are Annette Bell, for giving their time, heart, love, and compassion, enriching the lives of others and the Village of Joshua Tree. The President's Award went to Sandy Smith, the former director of Reach Out Morongo Basin and current director of the Copper Mountain College Foundation. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to J.B. and Lois Carrol for their countless acts of selfless service and love in all parts of their personal and professional lives. And receiving the honor for the Together We Can Award is the Hi-Desert Medical Center Auxiliary, which is devoted to providing comfort and helping the community through difficult and joyous times.

REVERSE RAFFLE AND LUCKY LUAU AT BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB SATURDAY
Tickets are still available for the big Reverse Raffle and Lucky Luau this Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club in Yucca Valley. The Hi-Desert Memorial Healthcare District Board of Directors meet in regular session at 6 o'clock tonight in the Helen Gray Education Center. On tonight's action agenda the board will consider eliminating the statement allowing the use of "alternates" in all committee charters, and directors will review and possibly approve the fiscal year 2013 budget. If approved directors will consider the purchase of echocardiography and associated equipment t a cost of almost $130,000. As always the public is invited to attend.

TWENTYNINE PALMS FOOD FOR LIFE ANNUAL MEETING THURSDAY
This Thursday, Food for Life will host its Annual Meeting from 6-7 p.m. at Little Church of the Desert Community Hall in Twentynine Palms. It will consist of a pot luck meal, a performance by the Tuli Family children, words of encouragement from Pastor Les Bishop, and a message from the President, Robert Harris, on where Food for Life has been and where it is going. NEW BEGINNING CHURCH CAR SHOW IN YUCCA VALLEY SATURDAY
The New Beginning Church in Yucca Valley will host their 1st Annual Car Show in the parking lot at the California Welcome Center this Saturday from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. First, second, and third place plaques and Best of Show will be awarded. YUCCA VALLEY RECREATION OFFERING BASIC DOG OBEDIENCE SESSIONS
Sit. Stay. Roll over. Go to obedience class. The Town of Yucca Valley will be offering those instructions and more. Reporter Lenore Roberts speaks...
Does your dog need to learn the basic commands of sit, come, and stay? Or do you wish you had more confidence handling and communicating with your dog? Two six-week sessions of basic dog obedience training will take place at the Yucca Valley Community Center this summer to help owners feel more comfortable and confident with their dogs. Classes will be held on Friday evenings from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The first session will begin on June 22 and the second session is scheduled to begin on August 10. Those interested in participating are required to ensure their pet is current on all vaccinations and to pre-register at the Recreation Office in the Yucca Valley Community Center. DOG LICENSE AND VACCINATION CLINIC IN YUCCA VALLEY THURSDAY
The Town of Yucca Valley will host a dog licensing and pet vaccination clinic on Thursday, June 14 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Community Center courtyard. The clinic is offered to all Yucca Valley and San Bernardino County residents. Low-cost rabies vaccinations will be available for $6 each as well as the canine DHLPP, Bordatella, and rattlesnake boosters for $10 each, and feline 5-way booster with Leukemia for $15. Dr. Bethan Smith will administer the vaccinations. Dog licenses will also be available at the clinic. Pet owners are asked to bring dogs on leashes and cats in carriers. Fees for services must be paid in cash. Checks will be accepted for Town of Yucca Valley licensing only. 2012 YUCCA VALLEY SWIM SEASON OPENS THIS WEEK
The Town of Yucca Valley's 2012 swim season opens this week. The afternoon swim sessions will be held Monday through Friday from 1:30 to 4:30 beginning tomorrow, June 13. Early morning water aerobics classes and evening family swim sessions start this Thursday, June 14. Lessons are scheduled in two-week sessions beginning the week of June 18.
