A missing Yucca valley woman was found dead yesterday in Morongo Valley, nine days after she was reported missing. Friday, June 1st, 27 year-old Jennifer N. Alkire of Yucca Valley, was reported as a critical missing by her parents due to medical issues. Sunday morning at 8:52 Jennifer Alkire was located deceased on a remote trail between her home and that of a friend's home in Morongo Valley. The County Coroner's Office said, there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. Investigators had asked for the public's help in locating her, they said she left her home in the 58600 block of Barron Drive about noon Friday, walking her Chihuahua dog and had not been seen since. Her stepfather, Michael Roark, told Z107-7 news that Jennifer Alkire had a seizure and fell and hit her head on a rock the first day she went missing. He said the coroner believes she died almost instantly right there, and it is likely she didn't feel it, as it was during an epileptic seizure. Roark said she died just a few hours after she left his wife's cousin's house almost 9 miles away.

YUCCA VALLEY CHASE BANK ROBBER ARRESTED
Police have identified the Yucca Valley man they say robbed Chase Bank early Friday afternoon. Roger Stafford, 61, was arrested about 1 ½ hours after the bank at the intersection of Joshua Lane and Highway 62 was robbed. According to Sheriff reports, Stafford entered the bank shortly before 12:30 and reached into his lower back and told the teller to not make him use it on her, making her believe he had a gun concealed under this shirt. Sheriff records indicate that Stafford received more than $4000 during the robbery. Chase Bank employees closed down the bank before calling police at 12:34, who arrived at the scene seconds later. Stafford allegedly left behind identification at the teller window, which led deputies to an address in the 7000 block of Cibola Avenue in Yucca Valley. There, deputies learned that Stafford had gone to a local restaurant near Church Street and the highway. Roger Stafford was arrested at the diner on suspicion of robbery and booked at the West Valley Detention Center with bail set at $100,000.

COUNTY SPECIAL TELEVISION DISTRICT SWITCHING TO DIGITAL
The County's Special TV District, which provides television service to Wonder Valley and other unincorporated areas of the Morongo Basin, will be installing new digital transmission antennas and equipment, starting this week. The County anticipates having all the analog television channels switched over within the next year. Scott Fritz, a communications engineer technician for the County's Television District, said the changeover to digital means that televisions will be able to pick up a lot more channels, but some channels currently received may be lost. He added that eventually everyone who uses an antenna or rabbit ears for TV reception will need to get either a digital converter box or a digital television; those who get their television service from cable or satellite do not need to buy converters. Converter boxes can be bought online or from major electronic outlet stores for about $40.
