FIGHT AT THE YUCCA VALLEY COMMUNITY CENTER
Two teens were involved in a bloody fight at the Yucca Valley Community Center. Sheriffs’ officials said Thursday afternoon about 4:50, deputies responded to the Yucca Valley Library Parking lot on a call that two teens were fighting, one who was now covered with blood. Arriving deputies broke up the fight. The teen’s mothers were called and pick them up. Neither side desired to press charges. During the fray, deputies encountered another man, Timothy Ellis, who had been drinking and was uncooperative. Ellis was placed into a patrol car and began banging his had n the windows. Ellis was pepper sprayed and controlled, then booked into the Morongo Basin Jail for investigation disorderly conduct, and released about 5:30 Friday morning.

MAJOR DRILL ON BOARD THE TWENTYNINE PALMS MARINE CORPS BASE
This reminder today, The Twentynine Palms Marine Base will be participating in a statewide disaster exercise known as Golden Guardian from Monday to Thursday of next week. Marines, sailors and civilian staff members will practice incident response capabilities and response times throughout a progression of emergency situations as part of a larger natural disaster scenario. Base Public Information officials said the Combat Center will remain in a heightened security alert status during the exercise, local residents should not confuse exercise activity as signs of an actual emergency..

FREE FEDERAL SURPLUS FOOD DISTRIBUTION MONDAY

The Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino will distribute surplus food to low-income residents of the county during May. Monday, May 16th is the only day on which distributions will be made at sites in the Morongo Basin, in the morning at --
· The Church of the Lighted Cross, at 11518 Elbow Lane in Morongo Valley, from 8 to 10
· Belfield Hall, on Reche Road in Landers, 8:30 to 10:30
· The Community Center in Yucca Valley, 8:30 to 10:30
· Copper Mountain Mesa Foundation, 65336 Winter Road in the Copper Mountain area, 9 to 11
· The Community Center in Joshua Tree, 9 to 11
· Sunset Village Apartments, 6036 Sunset Road in Joshua Tree, 9:30 to 11:30
· The fire station in Wonder Valley, 10:30 to 11:30, and
· Little Church of the Desert at 6079 Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms, from 10 to noon
Proof of income and address may be provided in a variety of ways, including self-certification on a form that will be available at each site. Recipients are requested to bring their own paper or plastic bags. The Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino is a private, non-profit organization that seeks to serve the low-income families, elderly, disadvantaged and homeless of the county. SKATING AVAILABLE IN LUCKIE PARK
If you’re an avid skater or a novice, ROP Broadcasting Student Alfredo Salgada says skate over to Luckie Park. Do you skate? Do you live near Luckie Park? If you do, then skate on down to the Luckie Park Skate Park, located at the south corner of Luckie Park, near the Park and Recreation office. Some of what the skate park includes is half-pipes, a bowl, bon box and more. Be sure to be safe and always wear essential safety gear such as helmets, elbow pads, kneepads and other basic safety needs.
