YUCCA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL EVACUATED AFTER BOMB THREAT
Students at Yucca Valley High School were evacuated for a short period Friday morning after the school received a bomb threat. District Assistant Superintendent Tom Baumgarten said the school received the anonymous threat just before 11. In response, school officials evacuated all students to the football field. Sheriff's deputies responded and conducted a full search of the campus, and determined no bomb or devices were on the grounds. The students were sent back to class around 11:45.

JOSHUA TREE MAN ARRESTED FOR DUI AFTER RUNNING OVER MEDIAN ON PARK BOULEVARD
A Joshua Tree man was arrested for DUI after he ran over a median on Park Boulevard. California Highway Patrol spokesman Eric Brewer said Thursday morning about 12:25, Les Alkana 21, was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero north on Park Boulevard, when he made an unsafe turn and ran over the center median hitting a road sign, flattening one of his tires and damaging the SUV. Alkana fled the scene and drove to a house in Joshua Tree parking the SUV out front. Responding CHP Officers Randy O'Brien and Alex Scott searched the area and located the vehicle. Officers contacted the homeowner then found Alkana inside. Les Alkana was arrested for investigaiton of driving under the influence with a blood alcohol of .15% or more, hit and run, and driving without a driver license, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail and released about 11:30 that morning.

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR DUI TRYING TO PICK UP HER KID
A Twentynine Palms woman was arrested for DUI after she was stopped at a Twentynine Palms Marine Base gate, trying to pick up her child from schools. Sheriffs' officials said Thursday afternoon about 3, Jessica Rock, 26, was on her way to pick up her daughter from school when she was stopped at one of the gates to the Marine Base. Rock was stopped after sentries suspeed her of being under the influence. Sheriff's deputies were called to the base, administered a Breathalyzer test, the results came back at .224 percent, almost 3 times the legal limit. Jessica Rock refused field sobriety test, and was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol, and released at 9:48 that evening.

JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK VOLUNTEER DINNER
To celebrate the thousands of hours and hard work performed by its many volunteers, Joshua Tree National Park officials is holding a volunteer recognition dinner. Park Ranger Pam Tripp has the details...
The staff at Joshua Tree National Park would like to take this opportunity to extend our appreciation to the volunteers who help us accomplish our tasks. Last month volunteers were recognized during National Park Service Volunteer week. On May 14 park volunteers will be honored with an appreciation dinner at the Sportsman's Club in the town of Joshua Tree. In 2010, 1,059 volunteers provided 41,899 hours by helping out in our visitor's centers, and participating in many other activities including: roving campgrounds and trails, search and rescues, camp host, caretakers, site stewards, backcountry rovers, trash and litter pickup, and many, many other valuable projects that helped keep our park running smoothly. The park would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to these Individuals, couples, Scouts, social and church groups, students who made the commitment to assist us throughout the year.

SPRING CONCERTS SERIES RAPS UP TONIGHT
The Twentynine Palms Spring Concert series finishes up this evening at 6, with Southbound, a southern rock mix that sounds like a combination of Lynard Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Merle Haggard, CCR and Jeremy Camp all rolled into one. All the members have been playing for over 30 years and are passionate about what they do. The concerts are held at the Luckie Park stage located on the north side of the racquetball courts. Admission is free. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and join Z107.7's Voice of the Night, Sam Smith, as he MC's the finial concert for 2011.
