TODDLER SENDS CAR DOWNHILL
A Yucca Valley toddler playing in the family car, sent it rolling downhill. Sheriffs’ reports say Thursday evening around 5:50, a 3 year old girl was playing in the family car parked on the street in the 7400 block of Borrego Trial in Yucca Valley. The youngster somehow put the car into neutral, the vehicle coasted downhill slamming into a parked ford F250 pick-up. The crash caused moderate damage to both vehicles. The 3-year-old was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center as a precaution. She had no visible injuries.

JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK LOOKING FOR HISTORIC PHOTOS
You just might have one among your old photographs. Joshua Tree National Park is actively seeking old historic photographs of the park and surrounding environs. Reporter Dan Stork puts out the call...
Joshua Tree National Park is looking for old pictures, in any format, of the Park. Many homesteads, homesteaders, mining areas, and miners are poorly represented in the Park’s photographic collection. Interior views of park historic structures are especially rare. Photographs have proven to be extremely valuable in recording the history of the park for both management and educational purposes. In particular, park staff would like to be able to show the buildings and life at Keyes Ranch as accurately and richly as possible. The Ranch is open to the public on guided tours, and offers an excellent example of what life was like on a desert homestead during the 20th century. People who have photos they wish to donate, or who have stories about the park, should contact Melanie Spoo, Museum Curator 760-367-5571, Melanie_spoo@nps.gov) or Hannah Nyala West, Park Historian 760-367-5576, Hannah_nyalawest@nps.gov).

LIBRARY BOOK GROUP READS ATWOOD
The Yucca Valley Branch Library’s adult book discussion group will meet Tuesday, April 27 at 6:15 in the program room. Copies of this month’s discussion book, The Handmaid’s Tale, are available for checkout at the reference desk. A powerful and futuristic novel, The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of Offred who lives in the Republic of Gilead. Society has been radically overturned by a theocratic revolution and Offred is a Handmaid serving in the household of the Commander and his bitter wife. She can only leave the house to shop and is not allowed to read. Comparable to Brave New World and Nineteen Eighty-four, The Handmaid’s Tale could be a warning that is chillingly relevant. Prepare for a lively discussion by reading Margaret Atwood’s, The Handmaid’s Tale. For more information, call 760-228-5455.
