ASSEMBLYMAN COOK LEGISLATION FOR VETERANS CLIMBING THROUGH COMMITTEES
Assemblyman Paul Cook, Yucca Valley assemblyman in Sacramento, is making it his cause to advance legislation regarding veterans. Cook gets some criticism for his work with veterans’ legislation but so far it hasn’t seemed to bother him. Karl Gardner has details ------
State Assemblymen and Former Yucca Valley Mayor Paul Cook pushed to more pieces of legislation through committee. Assembly bills 589 and 308, both sponsored by Cook, passed unanimously in their first committee hearing. AB 589 is a measure that allows State Corrections to contract with county veteran services to provide assistance to incarcerated veterans. Cook said his goal is to help reduced recidivism by tapping into federal money for honorably discharged vets, who are in prison, by providing them with some economic stability upon release. Cooks second piece of legislation would protect the rights of overseas absentee voters who wish to participate in runoff elections. Both measures passed their respective committee hearings 7 to 0.
