TWO SOUGHT AFTER MACHETE AND BAT ATTACK IN JOSHUA TREE
Sheriff’s investigators are still gathering the details
after a woman was attacked with what was first described as
a machete and a baseball bat Sunday afternoon in Joshua
Tree. Deputies were called to the 62000 block of Bonaire at
3:15 after a report of victims hit with a machete. After
investigation deputies said the victim, a Bobby Brown, was
attacked by a father and son, Jimmy and Doug Brown, with an
aluminum bat and a 12 inch straight blade knife. The victim
sustained two knife wounds described as superficial and was
taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center for treatment. The two
suspects fled before deputies arrived and are being sought
by investigators.

Sheriff’s

While sheriff’s records indicated the two suspects were
father and son, their mother contacted Z107.7 News this
morning asking for correction. She told us Jimmy and Doug
brown were brothers and the victim is Jimmy Brown’s wife.
The victim sustained two knife wounds described as
superficial and was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center for
treatment. The two suspects, Jimmy and Doug brown, fled
before deputies arrived and are being sought by
investigators.

VICTIM UNCOOPERATIVE AFTER TWENTYNINE PALMS
STABBING
Sheriff’s investigators are having a difficult time getting
to the bottom of a stabbing that followed an apparent
neighborhood melee in Twentynine Palms Saturday night.
Deputies were called to apartment in the 72-900 block of El
Paseo drive shortly after midnight. Various 9-1-1 calls
reported a major fight using hammers and knives. One report
said 5-6 people were fighting, another said it was 20-25
involved. One man, Yasir Kwiers, was stabbed in the lower
back. As deputies arrived the crowd dispersed, witnesses
said half of them fled to Los Angeles, the other half to
another location in 29 palms. Investigators say Kwiers was
stabbed with a large knife once in the lower back. He
refused to cooperate saying he did not know or care who
stabbed him. Witnesses who saw the fight but no one saw who
stabbed him. The investigation continues.

WHO PUT THAT TRUCK THERE?… DIRT BIKE CRASH IN
SUNFAIR
Who
put that truck there? CHP Officer Rob McCloud said around
1:30 Sunday afternoon, Kraig Wire, 28 of Morongo Valley, was
out riding his motorcycle on Coyote Dry Lake, better known
as Sunfair Dry Lake, making jumps over a makeshift ramp.
Just before one of the jumps an unidentified man from
Cypress stopped his pick-up in front of the rap to watch the
action. Wire, not seeing the parked vehicle, made a jump
slamming headlong into the new obstacle. Kraig Wire
complained of pain in his hip along with multiple abrasions
and contusions. He was taken to the Hi-Desert Medical Center
for treatment. It’s unknown if the owner of the parked
pick-up was cited.

YUCCA VALLEY PLANNING COMMISSION LOOKS AT A NEW
SUBDIVISIONS AND RETAIL CENTER SIGNS
Yucca
Valley Planning Commissioners will examine a 20-acre
subdivision and signs for a new project tonight. Reporter
Tami Roleff has details ------
The Yucca Valley Planning Commission will meet at 7 PM
tonight in the Yucca Room of the Town community center. On
the agenda is a request to subdivide 20 acres at the corner
of Palomar Avenue and Juarez Drive into twenty 1-acre lots.
Also up for consideration is a request to approve the sign
program for the Warren Vista Retail Center.

CONDITIONAL USE PERMITS, DEVELOPMENT CODES
The
Twentynine Palms Planning Commission will be looking at two
new businesses and development codes tonight. Reporter Dan
Stork checks the agenda ------
During its meeting on Tuesday April 7th, the 29
Palms Planning commission is scheduled to consider the
granting of 2 conditional use permits. One is for the
addition of a car stereo business and used car repair area
to be co-located with an existing barber shop, used car
dealership and cellular phone retail store, on a 2.78 acre
site, located at 3787 Adobe Road. The other application is
for a Bus Transfer Station at the southeast corner of Adobe
Road and Cactus Drive. There will also be a status update on
the city’s development code. The meeting begins at 6 PM in
City Council chambers.

MASSIVE PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY FOR 2010 CENSUS
The
2010 census is coming and preparations are already being
made for the every ten year count of every man, woman, and
child in the country. Managing Editor Karl Gardner says they
have already started verifying addresses ------
Although the official 2010 Census is April 1 next year,
massive preparations are now underway. Census officials say
more than 140,000 workers will canvass the entire country,
verifying more than 145 million addresses. Different from
past counts, the 2010 census will use hand-held computers
equipped with GPS to increase accuracy. Canvassing in most
areas of the country including the Morongo Basin began
Monday. Census workers can be identified by their official
Census Bureau badge and will never ask for bank or social
security information. All census information collected,
including addresses, is confidential and protected by law.
By federal statute, the Census Bureau cannot share responses
with other government agencies. All Census Bureau employees
— including temporary workers — take an oath for life to
keep census information confidential.
