WOMAN RESCUED AFTER FALL IN JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK
A
woman was injured while hiking in a remote part of Joshua
Tree National Park earlier this week. National Park
Spokesman Joe Zarki said Wednesday afternoon around 2:30,
Sara Dolsey, 28, of Encinitis, and a friend were hiking in
the Willow Hole region of the park, a remote area south of
Indian Cove. While scrambling along some rocks Dolsey
slipped and fell 3 to 4 feet hitting her head. Her companion
hiked out seeking help, and came across other visitors who
called park officials. County Fire, rangers and members of
Joshua Tree Search and Rescue responded, and found Dolsey
about 3 ½ miles from the nearest park road. A helicopter was
called in and airlifted Sara Dolsey to a parking area, where
she was taken by ambulance to Hi Desert Medical Center for
Treatment.

NOW IS THE TIME TO PREPARE FOR WILDFIRE SEASON
It’s
hard to fathom; today’s brilliant wildflower blooms, given
time, will turn into tomorrow’s wildfire fuel. Along with
this natural cycle come the need to clear around homes and
property, spearing you the tragedies witnessed during the
2006 Sawtooth Fires. Officials with the California
Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or CALFIRE,
stress that clearing 100 feet of defensible space around
homes and outbuilding, can mean the difference between a
place to live and a pile of ashes. CALFIRE Unit Chief Tom
O’keefe offers these tips in protecting your home and
property: Remove all flammable vegetation 30 feet from
structures, in the next 70 feet, create a reduced fuel zone
by spacing trees and plants away from each other. Clear
leaves and debris from rooftops, keep branches 10 feet or
more from chimneys and clean up old piles of wood and other
refuse near buildings. For more information on creating a
defensible space, visit on the web at fire.ca.gov.

TOWN MANAGER CALLS TAKE OVER OF WATER DISTRICT
CRAZY
Yucca
Valley Town Manager Andy Takata called rumors that the Town
is planning to take over Hi Desert Water District bunk. News
Director Gary Daigneault has more on Takata’s remarks from
Wednesday’s Hi Desert Water District Meeting ------
Yucca Valley’s Town Manager Andy Takata headlined the Hi
Desert Water District board meeting Wednesday night,
speaking chiefly regarding "Charges about the town going to
take over the Water District". Since Yucca Valley’s decision
to conduct a sphere of influence study that would include
the Yucca Mesa area, rumors have been rampant that the Town
is going to annex the Mesa, gain the water rights and take
over the Water District. If ever Yucca Valley would annex
the District, Takata said, "I think it would be a mutual
thing, as opposed to a hostile take over as some people are
trying to make it". Takata went on to say "For us to go
ahead and try to annex it into the town, it’s crazy".
Closing out his remarks, Takata noted there have never been
any official discussions to take over the district with the
Town Council, and no one has brought it up officially.
