COPPER MOUNTAIN COLLEGE GETS $10K PLEDGE FOR NEW CENTERS
Copper Mountain College Foundation has launched the "Bringing Community to Copper Mountain College" Fundraising Campaign, to repurpose a portable building into a much-needed Student Activity Center and renovate an existing building into a Faculty Advisement Center. CMC Foundation President, Cathy Larson, and CMC Trustee, Liz Meyer, kicked off the campaign with generous pledges to the Student Activity Center. Larson pledged $10,000 towards the $500,000 goal. CMC President Dr. Roger Wagner, CMC President, pitched the Centers, saying how they will benefit students and faculty, and how they will be built cost-effectively through repurposing and renovation of existing facilities. He said, " CMC students will be getting what many estimate to be a $2 million dollar facility for $500,000." Student Trustee, Anita Latham, explained how students are working to pass a Student Activity Center Fee of $1/per semester per student to maintain the new facility. BURGLARY ARREST IN JOSHUA TREE
A Joshua Tree man was arrested after a woman came home to find him breaking into her house. According to the Sheriff's Department, a woman in the 61700 block of Navajo Trail in Joshua Tree came home at 3:50 Thursday to find a man, later identified as Eben Zachary Hiner, 38, kicking in her front door. The report states that when Hiner saw the resident, he ran off, at which time the woman followed him in her car. After an investigation, Eben Zachary Hiner was arrested on suspicion of burglary. He was booked at West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $25,000.

BAILEY'S CAR SHOW RETURNS TO TWENTYNINE PALMS

Coming back for its 25th anniversary is the Bailey Car Show on Saturday, March 31 in Twentynine Palms. This free family car show expects to have at least 100 cars entered, as well as a military static display from the Marine base and the fire department, and the historic Hastie bus, which provided the first motorized public transportation in the Morongo Basin. Pre-registration for car entries is not required. Registration the day of the show begins at 7 a.m. at National Park Automotive, 6540 National Park Drive, in Twentynine Palms. Show hours are 9 to 3. MORONGO VALLEY SPRING FESTIVAL
Come out to the Morongo Valley Spring Festival next Saturday March 31st, for a day of food, fun, music, and games. It takes place from 8 am to 3 pm in Covington Park and the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. Activities start with a burrito breakfast from 8 am to 11 am at Covington Park and an 8 am bird walk along Yucca Ridge in the Preserve. Beginning at 10 am, there will be Live Presentations, Community Displays, Vendors, Children's Story Time, Kids Crafts, opportunities to visit the Art Colony and talk with Smokey Bear, and a raffle drawing in Covington Park. All this is sponsored by the Friends Of Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, the Morongo Valley Chamber Of Commerce, and the Morongo Valley Community Service District. RELAY FOR LIFE
There will be more than walking going on throughout the 24 hours of the Relay for Life walkathon fundraiser on April 21st and 22nd, at Twentynine Palms Junior High School. There will be a Survivors Breakfast at 8 am, opening ceremonies at 9, with the walkathon itself starting at 9:30. Other activities include: Haircutting, with tresses donated to the Locks of Love program, which makes wigs for those who have lost their hair due to medical issues; Zumba and self-defense classes; Theme laps, including Chicken Dance, sling shot, 3-legged, pajamas; A scavenger hunt, the Look Good-Feel Good Miss Relay Pageant, a broom race; Music from the honky-tonk flavored Ghost Light Trio, blues rock duo Patrick and Trevor, Joel Daniels on bagpipes, the Lauren Alaina Band, and Jared Scott. Saturday evening at 8 p.m. is the time for the Luminaria Ceremony, and closing ceremonies are set for 9 a.m. on Sunday. HI-DESERT MEDICAL CENTER FASHION LUNCH

The Hi-Desert Medical Center Auxiliary is planning a spring fashion show and luncheon, Friday, March 30th at noon in the Helen Gray Education Center on the hospital campus in Joshua Tree. "The Flowers of Spring" is the theme of this colorful event, which will showcase the fashions available at the Auxiliary's thrift shop on Park Blvd. in Joshua Tree. The event will include a festive spring lunch and raffles. Fashions modeled will be available for sale after the luncheon. Tickets are $20, available at the Auxiliary thrift shop, the Medical Center gift shop, or the marketing office in the Helen Gray Education Center. Tickets will not be available at the door.
