COOK MOVES TO REDUCE MOBILE HOME FEES
Assemblyman Paul Cook is making moves at the State Capitol to change rules concerning manufactured homes. Reporter Dan Stork takes a closer look...
Assemblyman Paul Cook of Yucca Valley has introduced legislation that aims to reverse mobile and manufactured home registration fee increases enacted by the state during the 2009 budget negotiation. The increases have more than doubled some registration fees for mobile homes and manufactured homes. According to the legislative counsel’s summary of the bill on the state legislative information web site, "This bill would exempt a manufactured home or mobilehome household whose income is below the federal poverty level … from the annual fee requirement." According to the same summary, the annual registration fee is now $23 for each transportable section of a manufactured home, mobile home, or commercial coach that is subject to annual renewal. In doing this Cook recognizes the large number of mobile and manufactured home owners in the Inland Empire and, specifically, in his assembly district (the 65th ), in which over 20,000 mobile home owners reside. Cook stated: "These fees need to be reversed to alleviate the financial strain on those who can least afford it."
