TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL TO LOOK AT NIGHT SKY ORDINANCE, RESIDENTIAL CLUSTERING
The Twentynine Palms Planning Commission will look at the Night Sky Ordinance and Residential Clustering at its next regular meeting Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at City Hall on Adobe Road. In a public hearing the criteria for exterior lighting in all zoning districts of the city will be proposed. Changes to the language will attempt to limit and clarify how lighting may be displayed on private property. Stressing more defined shielding requirements for all outdoor lighting, the intent of the proposed amendment is to minimize light pollution; while still allowing adequate lighting for security or aesthetic purposes; and to allow for more effective enforcement of the city’s Night Sky Ordinance. A second public hearing will address a proposed new chapter in the Development Code for Planned Unit Development, also known as Residential Clustering. The addition would establish standards for an overlay to allow concentration and clustering of residential development within a defined portion of a property in any residentially zoned district. For questions, call City Hall at 760-367-6799 or view agendas and reports on the city’s web site: www.ci.twentynine-palms.ca.us.
