COUNTY FIRE CITES TWO FOR ILLEGAL BURNING
Two homeowners were cited for illegal fires Thursday. County fire officials said the first call was to Landers around 2 p.m. in the 5600 block of Sunterrace. Residents at the location were cleaning up debris in their yard and set the pile ablaze. Fire Crews from station 122 in Yucca Mesa put out flames then cited the homeowner for having an illegal fire. Later that evening around 6, fire crews were called out to the 4900 block of Ocotillo in Johnson Valley. Once again homeowners were burning trash and rubbish. The fire was out when firefighters arrived, a citation was given for that fire as well. County fire officials remind everyone you obtain a permit to burn anywhere within the County of San Bernardino.

HOLD THE MUSTARD
It might be good on your hot-dog or hamburger, but mustard is not good for Joshua Tree National Park or surrounding environs. Park Ranger Pat Pilcher joins us with this on ‘Hold the Mustard’...
Sahara mustard is a non-native plant capable of crowding out native Mojave Desert annuals and creating increased fuel loads and fire danger in this dry desert environment. This weed is invading Joshua Tree National Park and our local communities. The plant has the potential to do irreversible damage to our landscape unless we do something to stop its spread. Please join a group of volunteers on March 6, 13, 20 from 8 am until noon to pick and bag this invader. Efforts will be concentrated in the Pinto Basin area of the Park. Meanwhile if you see Sahara mustard on your property, please destroy the entire plant including root, flowers and seeds. Volunteers should meet at the Joshua Tree National Park Visitor Center in Twentynine Palms and come prepared with water, snacks, gloves, hats and sunscreen. For more information, call Victoria Chang, at 760-367-5579.
