SUSPECT ARRESTED IN 29 PALMS BEATING AND MURDER
A suspect in a Twentynine Palms Beating and Homicide has been caught. Sheriff Homicide Detectives said Jason Brown, 29 of Montclair was arrested Saturday after an intense investigation. Back on January 26, a distinctively dressed woman came to the door of a home in the 71400 block of Samarkand at 8:45 asking for help with her disabled vehicle. The resident, who Z107.7 news has chosen not to identify, was suspicious of her behavior and armed himself with a .357 magnum handgun and went out of his house to investigate. Sources say as he walked out the front door, two men attacked him with clubs striking him in the head and forehead and then pepper sprayed him. He was able to draw his weapon and shot and killed one of the attackers, identified as Robbie Winnen 48, of Rancho Cucamonga. Detectives say the remaining man and the woman fled in Winnen’s 1995 Ford Ranger. The truck was recovered a week later in Mira Loma. Brown was identified as the second suspect and charged with Winnen’s murder. Under California’s felony murder rule, anyone involved in a felony is criminally liable for deaths occurring during that crime. Jason Brown was booked into the Central Detention Center and is being held without bail. The female suspect is still being sought. Anyone with information about his case is asked to call the Sheriffs’ Homicide Detectives at 909-387-3589 or the We-Tip hot line at 800-782-7463.

DOD TELLS MARINES "QUIT THE SPIT" THIS THURSDAY
Attention Marines, The Defense Department would like you to remove that gritty lump of tobacco from your mouth and chuck it in the trash. If you do it this Thursday, February 18th, you’ll have company. That’s the date of the Great American Spit Out, which DoD is promoting as part of its larger anti-tobacco campaign, "Quit Tobacco — Make Everyone Proud." Smokeless tobacco is a legitimate threat to the health of U.S. troops. An estimated 17 percent of 18- to 24-year-olds use smokeless tobacco, the DoD reports. Snuff and chewing tobacco contain higher concentrations of nicotine and include 28 known carcinogens. The products can cause fatigue, muscle weakness and impaired night vision. Beginning this month, Marines can sign up for free aids such as quitting plans and live online chats with "cessation coaches." For more information visit www.ucanquit2.org.
