MILITARY HUMVEE, 1; CIVILIAN PICK-UP TRUCK, 0
In a collision between a military Humvee and a small pick-up truck, there's little doubt about who gets the worst of it. About 7:30 last night, a convoy of Humvees was traveling northbound on Utah Trail. When the convoy made a left turn onto Valle Vista Road, the second Humvee in the convoy crashed into the passenger side of a 2001 Ford Ranger truck. The unidentified male passenger suffered cuts to the face and was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The truck suffered heavy damage to the right side from the front fender to back of the passenger compartment and was smoking when paramedics arrived. The Humvee had only minor damage.

COUNTY SUPERVISORS PLAN TO LOSE DISTRICT FUNDING
The County Board of Supervisors may adopt a policy today preventing them from using their discretionary funds to cover staffing costs. County Chief Executive Officer Greg Devereaux wants supervisors to disclose, on a quarterly basis, how their discretionary funds are being spent. The proposed policy change also includes a provision that unspent appropriations remaining after the 2015-2016 fiscal year be returned to the county's general fund. Discretionary funds were initially intended to fund projects and programs in each supervisorial district, but funds were being used to inflate supervisor staffing budgets at the discretion of the Supervisors. The Grand Jury had criticized the Board for using $2.6 million earmarked for special projects and programs in their districts to fund additional staffing in their offices. The county is facing a $46.5 million budget shortfall for the 2011-2012 fiscal year.
