MAN HELD AFTER MAKING TERRORIST THREATS
A Yucca Valley man is behind bars for making terrorist threats towards his girl friend. Sheriff officials said last Sunday, deputies responded to the 56400 block of Desert Gold in Yucca Valley, the caller saying her aunt was being assaulted by her boy friend. Responding deputies said Alex Cruz, 48, had been drinking and became both verbally and physically abusive with his girl friend. At one point Cruz told his girlfriend that "he would bury her deep in the desert and nobody would find her. Alex Cruz was taken into custody at the home and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for investigation of making terrorist threats, and held on $50,000 bail.

WARNING ABOUT JURY SCAMS
The phone rings, you pick it up, and the caller identifies himself as an officer of the court. He says you failed to report for jury duty and that a warrant is out for your arrest. To clear it up, the caller says he'll need some information for "verification purposes"-your birth date, social security number, maybe even a credit card number. This is when you should hang up. It's a scam. Jury scams have been around for years. As a rule, court officers never ask for confidential information over the phone. The scam's bold simplicity may be what makes it so effective. With enough information, scammers can assume your identity and empty your bank accounts. Protecting yourself is the key: never give out personal information when you receive an unsolicited phone call.

HIKE THE CHOLLA CACTUS GARDEN TRAIL
Now that the stormy weather is behind us, for the time being, it’s a good time to take a hike in Joshua Tree National Park. Park Ranger Pat Pilcher joins us with this on one unique trail to the Cholla Cactus Garden...
Winter is a good time to visit the low desert country of the Pinto Basin in Joshua Tree National Park. Cool daytime temperatures make January an attractive time for exploring this remote area. The Cholla Cactus Garden Trail offers a great opportunity to discover some of the park’s distinctive plant life. The most dominant plant in the garden is the teddy bear Cholla cactus, which, from a distance, appears to be covered with soft, silvery bristles. As tempting as it looks, please resist the urge to "hug the Teddy Bear." Each of the bristles is actually a needle sharp spine that, if you venture too close and actually touch them, can become deeply imbedded in your skin. Despite evidence to the contrary, the cholla cannot jump but if you get too close - you will! Remember, the Cholla Cactus Garden trail is rated "PG" - parental guidance advised, especially with small children.
