ASSEMBLYMAN PAUL COOK REACTS TO STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS
Assemblyman Paul Cook of responded to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's 2010 State of the State address, delivered during a joint session of the State Legislature. Cook said "The Governor's overwhelming message was that state government needs to make job creation its first priority. I think he's finally getting the message that California's economic success is completely dependent on putting people back to work. The Governor's four-part plan to create jobs is a huge step in the right direction," Part of the Governor's California Jobs Initiative, an aggressive plan aimed at stimulating the state's faltering economy, includes $500 million for worker training, a move that's expected to create approximately 100,000 jobs statewide. Cook said the Governor's speech was surprisingly upbeat considering the challenges facing the state in 2010, particularly a looming budget deficit close to $21 billion. Cook added that he was hopeful the Governor's plan would improve the state's fiscal problems and reduce unemployment in his district and across the state.
