MORONGO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION PART 2: APPROVALS AND COMPLAINTS

Most of the very long meeting of the Morongo Unified School District on Tuesday centered on a proposed raise for the District Superintendent. In the second of two reports on the meeting, reporter Dan Stork says that approvals on diverse subjects were given, and diverse complaints were heard…
District Superintendent Dr. Cecelia English introduced Lynn Lee as the new Director of Fiscal Services. Single Plans for Student Achievement for four elementary schools were approved, as were new K-12 math texts, and a policy change in graduation requirements, beefing up the math requirement. The Citizens Oversight Committee’s favorable report on the use and administration of Measure O bond funds was delivered by Mark Lundquist. Emotional public comment was heard on several issues, including a request that Board meetings be video-recorded; intrusive automated calls to substitute teachers; inefficient replacement of Smart Boards at Landers Elementary; turning off water to a food garden at Twentynine Palms Junior High; and denial of food aid to a special needs student.
