JURY IS STILL OUT ON CONTESTED WONDER VALLEY ROAD TAX

Wonder Valley residents who expected the fate of a proposed special tax for road maintenance would be settled at yesterday’s Board of Supervisor’s meeting in San Bernardino will have to wait another month for answers. Supervisors were expected to declare official the results of a special election held in Wonder Valley last month. Voters there approved creation of a district that would tax each parcel $55 for 2014-15 and $30 annually with a 2.5 percent inflationary factor starting next year. Speakers on either side of the issue made their case to the Board, many complaining of confusing procedures prior to and during the election. Supervisors found the issue confusing as well, enough to unanimously approve continuing the matter until the September 24 meeting to allow more time to look at the matter. The move gives those opposing the special tax extra time to collect the approximate fifty additional letters needed to kill the plan.

Who are the clowns trying to stop this tax? I hope they have their own drags/tractors and are planning on grading the roads themselves. And what about when it floods? $55 a year for excellent road maintenance is a bargain but I guess some people just look for reasons to whine and complain. They can go ahead and collect their fifty extra letters, I can guarantee that sensible residents of WV who understand the need for this tax will vastly outnumber the cry babies.

    Dear uninformed CAM
the clown you are referring to are the taxpayers.
We are already paying for road maintenance with an additional road tax on our property tax it was not till a couple of years ago that anybody even broomed the roads. now the county seeks 400,000 a year in additional taxes for doing what we are already paying for. Most of the money may not even come back into wonder valley it may just end up covering admin cost.
Why did the county not include all affected tax payers in the newly created tax district. if it passes it is sure to be challenged.

How many tax payers do you think Wonder Valley actually has? A large amount of the people who live here are not contributing members of society. Did you even bother reading the flyer that was sent out with every ballot? Wonder Valley needs a new tractor because the current one is falling apart. I’m willing to pay an extra $50+ a year to have my long dirt road maintained. The problem is that people expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter free of charge(Thanks Obama). The increased taxes will enable the department to purchase a newer tractor and also provide full time road maintenance as opposed to part time. I know people are going to cry and moan if this goes through. Unfortunately there are quite a few idiots out here that will make a huge deal over anything they disagree with. All I have to say about that is, when they get stuck driving down their road because it hasn’t been properly maintained, they can dig their own asses out. More people are obviously for the tax increase than against it but there are always those couple of jackasses who throw temper tantrums when things don’t go their way.

dear cam I also belive in maintenance. But we are already paying a maintenance assessment albeit not very much but some also comes from fuel taxes. Also the purpose of a assessment is to provide a direct benefit to all those that are taxed, many parcles are not even served by any road should thay by that definition be taxed or assessed also I think not and secondly I take care of my road in front of my house for aprox. 1 mile so no handouts here. and please curtail the name calling it is not nessesary.
for all we know we might be neighbors.
P.S. I like thing the way thay are. smooth roads invites people to drive faster = more dust and the need for more road maintinence= more taxes. here we go again. Thanks

your snappy little letter would make everybody mad whether they were going to help on the tractor or not!
