HUMAN REMAINS FOUND IN DESERT AT LEAST A YEAR OLD

Human skeletal remains were found Wednesday near the desert community of Newberry Springs. The Sheriff’s Department says an off-roader in the open desert near Silver Valley Road and Bon View Avenue found the remains. The remains were not immediately identified, and it was unclear how they came to the location, the release said. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Bachman said the remains had been at the location for at least a year, too long to be those of Erin Corwin, 20, who went missing from Twentynine Palms on June 29. The search for Corwin has recently focused on the Joshua Tree area. Anyone with any information on the remains is asked to call Detective Daniel Rodriguez or Sgt. Jason Radeleff at 909-387-3598.
