FINANCING RELEASED FOR 42ND ASSEMBLY DISRICT RACE

Fundraising in the local Assembly race continues to favor candidates who had the most success before the primary. In the 42nd Assembly District, Republican Chad Mayes has raised nearly five times the money as Democrat Karalee Hargrove. Mayes’ campaign finance report showed the former Yucca Valley councilman has raised $245,420 and spent $302,435 since January. Mayes’ campaign had $78,780 available to spend, with $4,134 in unpaid bills at the end of September. Hargrove, a Morongo Unified School Board member from Twentynine Palms, reported raising $50,684 and spending $37,580 since the start of the year. Her campaign account held $18,151 at the end of September, with just $773 in lingering bills. The 42nd District—currently represented by Republican Assemblyman Brian Nestande of Palm Desert—includes communities in the Hi-Desert, the San Gorgonio Pass and the cities of Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells and La Quinta. Mayes and Hargrove will have their only debate on Z107.7 this Friday at 10 a.m.
