CHP ON MAXIMUM ENFORCEMENT THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND

The local CHP station will join law enforcement throughout the region with a maximum enforcement effort over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Reporter Diana Jones says DUI and speeders will be targeted…
Many Morongo Basin residents will celebrate Independence Day this weekend with outdoor barbecues, picnics, and social gatherings. If you drive anywhere this weekend, the California Highway Patrol encourages you to designate a sober driver and buckle up. The CHP will be out in full force from 6 p.m. Thursday to midnight, Sunday. During this maximum enforcement period, CHP officers will focus on speeding violations, seatbelt use, and looking for those driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. During the 2013 Fourth of July weekend, 56 people were killed in collisions under CHP jurisdiction, and 70 percent of them were not wearing their seat belt.
