6/22 - 7/19 Artist Reception at Tumbleweed Photos. Elouise Barrus. 3-5 p.m. Elouise Barrus brings an eclectic background to her watercolor artistry. Watercolor glazing is the art of layering washes of color, to create vivid and stylized renderings of animals in nature, floral landscapes and revealing portraits. Elouise's art palette includes, watercolor, ceramic neckaces, Southwestern Gourds and metal sculpture. Her families' involvement in architecture and engineering provides a grounding in design fundamentals. Her dad, a retired architect and accomplished watercolorist and her husband Robert's welding skill and engineering expertise are the tapestry underlying Elouise's art. Elouise has been seriously producing fun works of art since retiring from 25 years as a substitute teacher. Elouise's art will be on display through July 19. Hours are 9-5 pm Monday-Friday and 10-2 pm Saturday. The studio and gallery is located at 57490 29 Palms Hwy (at Airway next to Von's center and Union Bank) in Yucca Valley. The Academy of Learning Arts is offering a summer arts program at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center on the highway in Joshua Tree. The Academy of Learning Arts will offer creative group instruction in Drawing, Music, and Movement. This youth summer arts program will take place June 24, 25, 26 and July 1, 2, 3 from 9am to 11am at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center's Palmer Performance Hall in Joshua Tree.
