The Yucca Valley Planning Commission has scheduled a special meeting on Tuesday, May 7, at 6:00 to discuss the Town’s sign ordinance and draft regulations for alternative energy systems. Business owners and residents are encouraged to attend to provide their input on the formulation of ordinances, standards and regulations for these matters. The meeting will be held in the Yucca Room of the community center.

Dazzling gems and geodes are sparkling in the desert sun. The 38th Annual Gem, Mineral, and Craft Show will be at the Joshua Tree Sportsman’s Club October 2 through the 6 from 9 a.m. until dark. More than 50 vendors will have geodes, crystals, jewelry, crafts, and gems from around the world. Learn how to pan for gold, and then keep what you find! There will be games and hourly raffles, food, barbecue, and drinks, and best of all, admission is free.

GLASS OUTHOUSE GALLERY RECEPTION SATURDAY

The Glass Outhouse Gallery is hosting an opening reception Saturday for an exhibit of contemporary quilts of Diane Mooradian. The reception will feature food and music from 5 to 9 p.m. The quilt exhibit will run October 5 through 27; the Glass Outhouse will be open both weekends of the Highway 62 Art Tours, October 19-20, and October 26-27. DUMB CROOK AUTO THEFT

If you steal a vehicle, it’s not a good idea to drive it around the town where the vehicle was stolen. A man who had reported his van stolen saw his van in the Food 4 Less parking lot in YuccaValley shortly before noon Thursday. The registered owner called police, who contacted Samuel Cepeda, 35, of the 6600 block of Daisy Avenue in YuccaValley, when he came out of the store, and found the keys to the stolen van in his possession. Samuel Cepeda was arrested for investigation of possession of stolen property, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $25,000.

SIX ARRESTED IN YUCCA VALLEY PUBLIC NUISANCE SWEEP

Six people were arrested in Yucca Valley Tuesday during a day-long sweep for public nuisance crimes. According to a Sheriff’s press release,  the list of offenses for which individuals were arrested included suspicion of panhandling, misdemeanor battery and resisting arrest, felony vandalism, public intoxication, possession of an open alcoholic beverage on Town property, and a misdemeanor drug warrant.  Deputies also cited a minor for possession of tobacco, an adult for possessing an open alcoholic beverage in a vehicle, and two adults for traffic offenses.
